Artist's Comments
Part 1 of 5 of a commission for ~Phraxus, who I thank greatly for being ultimately patient with me.
 Designing Madrid (foreground) was a lot of fun. She's a White-Spotted Puffer (hint!) mermaid, which I chose 'cause it was the prettiest puffer fish I could find reference of. XD I gave her short hair 'cause I thought it was cuter, and long hair is more cliché. Round eyes and lack of nose are supposed to be fishy traits, but I'm not sure about the nose, since it makes her face look a bit off. The other mermaid is a tiger shark... which may be cliché, but they're like one of the main predators of pufferfish. Hopefully. I do do some research for commissions like this, but sometimes I still end up in the rut of The Commissioner Knows More (happens a lot with TFs). Straight pencils this time, 'cause it works better with the tones IMO. Used a 4H and 4B pencil on letter-sized printer paper. Hopefully I can get most of the rest done tomorrow. All the thumbnails are drawn, so I know what I'm doing for the other parts. |

We attempt to accomplish this by daily featuring Literature artists from around the community that deserve the recognition, but are not getting it. Each day we will feature 5 deviations from the Literature categories in a News Article. In order to support the artists that we feature, we ask that you  the news article as well as check out the individual pieces. I'm glad you had so much fun designing Madrid. She looks wonderful. I'm really looking forward to seeing the rest of the sequence.
